Further to the alerts posted here regarding replacement lids for these strainers, can anyone tell me if replacing my ones would be worthwhile? We've had a few gallons ingress and the strainer casings were wet, suggesting leaky lids. It could of course be that I hadn't got them tight enough.

I think it may be a different problem
Are yours marked Volvo ?
Normally ensuring he baskets are located properly with good sealing rings should ensure water tightness some Volvo ones have a cover plate which must be fitted correct way up.

I cannot offer an answer, but I have the same set up so will be interested in what is said. Fortunately mine have not leaked (touching wood here) but at some stage someone had tightened the lids so hard they had broken one of the very flimsy strap type mounting brakets!!!

Those are Vetus strainers model FTR320. They should not leak water. Normally they are fitted above the waterline so water never comes up to the cover. If the seal (O ring in the lid) is not sound they suck in air. If they are mounted below the waterline, or after the pump then the lid is the seal and it would be pretty obvious if they were leaking.
