Hello,

Before this season I changed the magnetic clutch on my KAD32, at the first run the boat run as it should, but had an awful squeak from one of the engines when the supercharger kicked in. I changed oil and the squeak is not as awful as before but still there and the new clutch gets warm. Can I be certain the supercharger is blown or could there be other, not so costly, issues to check before I open the wallet?

Secondly, can anyone tell me about experiences of overhauling these superchargers? I have heard both good and bad.

Thanks in advance!

For a cheap check, I would change the belt, and also check the bottom belt for slippage.
Also, check that you have the circlips properly seated in the clutch, that the shims gap is correct and you have located the clutch on the small location pin, or it will move. You may as well take it off again and be sure it hasn't scored and that it spins freely.
I would leave the supercharger itself until last possible option!
They do get a bit warm.

Thanks for your reply! I forgot to mention that when I turn the SC by hand, it spins perfectly fine. I also need to correct myself, the clutch doesn't just get warm but it gets hot, so clearly something there is wrong, which makes me believe it doesn't have anything to do with belts as that wouldn't generate heat in the clutch, also there are no belt dust. Or do you think I'm wrong?

The belt comment was regarding the squeal. Are you sure where that is coming from?
I reckon the cheap thing is take the clutch off, check it over and put it back on. 30 mins.
Warm to touch, probably normal. Too hot to touch ,something , possibly within the clutch, is rubbing, which suggests it is not fitted correctly.
I guess you could also have some electric issue where the clutch plate isn't clearing/mating with the clutch body fully, and so slipping/heat.
Outside my scope!

So yesterday I removed the old magnetic clutch from the port side engine and mounted it on the starboard engine where the new has been mounted, just to test and eliminate the possibility of the new clutch being the issue before ordering a new SC. All noise gone!

Did the new or the old clutch squeaked ? Dud you find obvious wear marks on the clutch ?
The new one. To be honest I didn’t find any obvious marks so I haven’t been able to localize what exact part was making the noise, other than that it obviously came from the clutch.
