I have a VP wet exhaust system water lock/mufler that is equipped with stainless steel caps. The inlet SS cap has corroded to the point now where the system is increasingly leaking into the boat. This system is now of course obsolete and unavailable to purchase and replace with new.

I’m looking at having it repaired but am considering going down the Vetus water lock route. Avoiding carrying on with materials that corrode/rust where I’m likely to encounter ongoing issues.

Beneteau 36cc 2001 VP2040 38hp exhaust hose diam 45mm

Anyone swapped out for the vetus unit successfully?

A replacement is still available -I have just purchased one for my MD2030 -same exhaust hose diam. mail order from FYB Marine and 10% off list price.

Mine lasted 25 years which I classify as a reasonable lifespan for anything on a boat, let alone something subjected to such harsh conditions

A direct replacement is still readily available or you can have the existing end cap repaired by welding. I had one of mine done cost about £50. If you want to go the plastic route then you need a Vetus WLOCKR45 although you can get unbranded equivalents cheaper. Just make sure it is 4l capacity and 45mm spigots. Terus is not quite the same physical size but there is usually enough slack in the hoses to fit it but you will need to make some form of support for it.
