Hi Folks,

Have been sprucing up the boat and would like to touch up the paint on our VP 2002. Have been quoted £19 for an aerosol can.As the coffers are getting bare can anyone suggest a cheaper source. We are based near Ipswich

Many thanks

Robert

Will you be able to mask sufficiently to use an aerosol in the confines of your engine space and with all the various wires, cables and pipes?

Since the finish required is hardly "car showroom" on cast iron, brush painting will be much easier and give better results.

If you can take a small painted item off the engine, take it to an ICI Autocolour auto paint dealer and he'll make you up a tin of brushing cellulose to match. It may not be cheaper than your £19 but far better value and more useful than an aerosol.

Saltyrob,

A very good match well I cannot tell the difference, is Ford Meadow Green available at a fraction of the price from your local Halfords.

PS mines a VP 2002.

Happy sprucing.

Just bought a tin of Hammerite Smooth in green from Halfords - £7.49.

Will tell you if it's a decent match after I have been down to the boat, re-torqued the head, degreased and had a spray around.

At least unlike some of the other suggestions, this stuff is self priming on rust, which is far more likely to be the application circumstances involved.

Can't imagine standard cellulose paint lasting any longer than a spray with Duck Oil.

I bought spray paint from the local chandler that actually states it is a match for VP green and it was; I think is was made by Plastimo and was only a few pounds.
