I have been advised that my 1983 MD7B Volvo Penta Diesel engine, in my Sigma OOD 33 needs repair or replacement, quoted cost of repair is not far short of a new replacement engine. Apparently compression tests on both cylinders are low (50% and 78% down), piston rings, fuel lines need replacement, leaking diesel fuel and smokes, so much wrong with it although to me the engine sounds if it is running smoothly! I also need to be sure that any replacement unit keeps my Sigma 33 OOD in class for racing.
The quote that I have been provided by a marine diesel specialist is £6,800.
I am not an expert on engines and would like any advice as to how to process this - the cost seems very high!
