Hi

We have just bought a lovely Westerly Centaur with a Volvo Penta MD11D engine. When I turn the ignition there are two positions where a high pitched beep is emitted. The old owner wasn't really sure what this meant. Is there any sort of glow plug or are these just warning noises to not leave the ignition on when the engine is turned off.

Thanks

AFAIK the beep comes from the oil pressure warning alarm.
No pressure before engine start, hence the alarm.
As said above it also serves to let you know the alarm system is working, as it will also alarm for high water temp.

My MD11c has an oil pressure warning light/beep which does as the others have suggested. Same for high water temp.
