I am looking at a boat with a single KAD32 later this week, and taking it out for a sea trial.

Is there anything specifically to check on this model engine, common issues, big ticket items that may need doing?

It hasn't been serviced for 2 years, so I am aware the belts, and standard service items should be done asap.

Thanks in advance.

Belts can be long lived.
Engine oil should be changed every 100 hours . I would not worry too much about two years since the last oil change if it has done less than 100hrs since . Service of the outdrive is perhaps the bigger issue .
There should be no oil leaks , at least none of any significance.

Here's a pic fro my first boat withe a kad32 when it would have been about 8 years old

Thanks, ok good to know about the belts.

The outdrive (DP-E) has also not been done for two years.. any advice on that?

The leg should be serviced every two years.
The outdrive will almost certainly be in need of anodes which I replace regardless of how they look - the anodes often look worse on examination after they have been removed .
The bellows are recommended for replacement every two years too. ......which is on the safe side.
The leg oil should be changed . I use an alternative oil of the correct spec but some people are picky about using oil out of a Volvo Penta branded bottle.
Apply marine white grease to the splines on refitting props - which makes then a lot easier to remove next time . The prop removal tool is worth having.

Make sure the oil the drives are 100% free from water or there may be damage to the drives. The oil should not be milky or contain any water.

My understanding on VP original gear oil is that it contains additives to cope better with water ingress.

It is fully synthetic oil which is better at dealing with water than mineral oil
