I bought my boat new with volvo penta ips 500 engines. Within the first few months of ownership the boat would slow down to about 8 knots and the steering wheel would stiffen. In addition the joystick became unresponsive. Volvo changed the pods , the joystick, and possibly the computer. This resolved all of the problems.
Several years later, and at about 250 engine hours, the joystick became inoperative again. Local Volvo mechanics repaired it. After it was repaired the boat, on two separate occasions, with the engines running and in neutral moved forward on its own! I had to manually take control and stop it.
Anyone got any knowledge as to why a) the joystick keeps breaking down and b) why the boat moved forward on its own?
