This will be small beer for you guys but your breadth of knowledge may be my saviour.
I am replacing my current volvo penta 2002 engine with a Beta 25. Unfortunately I cannot work out whether the volvo gearbox is a down angled box or a straight one. The reference numbers on the box are : KGMS2B, No 14012, reduction 2.37:1

Does anyone have any knowledge of these gearboxes.

Thank you

I had the MS3B gearbox on my last boat - that was down angle. Had to rebuild the bloody thing, for which no manual was to be found, so I wrote my own by reverse engineering. Copy available here if you want it.

I think that it may be down angle as the in line had an L in the number
But you can surely check by putting a straight edge in line with the coupling flange and measuring against front face of the box

Thanks Superheat and Scottie for taking the time to respond. Your manual looks very comprehensive Superheat, and could prove useful.
This afternoon I've been doing just what you have suggested Scottie, and despite the difficulty of getting at it, it appears to be slightly down angled. I've come across a reference to one which was 7 degrees down angled so probably mine is this.
The truth of course will become clear once I've got the 2002 engine out.
