Volvo Penta engine stop delay

Id think probably not. Might be interesting to compare with the other engine!

Don't know what's happened to the logic side of my brain since I retired, comparing voltages with the other engine is an obvious step.
But I didn't take it doh!

The other solenoid has 0.3 v less reaching it 11.6v and 11.4v and works fine.
Everything pointing to a Volvo mech's suggestion that the solenoid actuating but is not fully seating and should be removed and cleaned before considering replacement.
Just don't feel confident enough to start stripping out all the bits in the vicinity to allow removal of the solenoid.

Thinking about this last night, just before this problem started I was trying to increase the tickover speed on this engine as it was running a bit slow and consequently vibrating.
Could I have caused the stopping problem by adjusting the wrong linkages / throttle stops or are they not related to the solenoid working?

Back to my suggestion in post 18
Can you isolate the solenoid & complete the process manually?

The solenoid on the starboard engine is slightly more accessible. I decided to go for it and dismantled a few surrounding things which didn't look too dangerous. I got an adjustable on just enough to crack it. Got the number off it but unfortunately ToolBoxShop.com didn't carry it, they gave me a supplier in Germany but at 275 euros it was similarly priced from Volvo.
Confidence high I attacked the port engine and after an hour got it off :)
I cleaned both solenoids and put them back on, tested them with about 30 engine starts and had a 100% success rate. Too early to say they're fixed but at least if I have to get Volvo replacements I will be able to fit them myself :)
Thanks to all who contributed, I've learned a lot and I will post in a week or so to update.

On our first ever 'voyage' we left Penton Hook on Friday. After 7 locks and a few overnight stops, we are in Rochester. Dodging the bank holiday Yachties and a massive container ship in the Mudway was an experience.
Solenoid and all else going well.
:)
