The gauges on my T40 are showing their age, not helped by the med sun even though they are covered up they are now mostly a bit crazed.

Following a suggestion from aquatom ( AKA Tom from Total Marine in Mallorca) I have ordered new lenses.

Apparently you remove the gauge, fish out the rubber and change the lens. How simple this is I will be able to report in a few weeks, or alternatively I will turn up outside Tom's office looking sad until he take pity on me! I have 13 to do so I should get quite good at it by the end!

They are £8.24 each , but if the order is less then £100 there is £10 shipping.

Nope, almost bought a Manhattan 50 as you know, but very happy with the T40 at the moment. We have had endless debates as to next boat Fly / Sport and I think Sport is winning at the moment so maybe a T50 ish or similar from Santa if we have a good year. The T40 is (as you know) honestly a lovely boat and not too hard on the wallet.

The new lumishores got their first real test this weekend - from above they look OK, but only OK - dive into the water and WOW it is a different world - your own private pool!

It always makes my laugh in MBY etc when they do a used boat review, and the owner always gushes how fantastic it is and then it ends .... and xxx is now up for sale!

Just trying to keep it nice - and i like tinkering!

Replaced all the switch covers a few months ago - much nicer!

I have one or two crazed lenses on my gauges. I was wondering how to fix them without changing the whole instrument so thanks for this.

I was told it happened because of exposure to sunlight. Apparently you should cover them when not in use.

Now they tell me!

I can't disagree with any of that. I'm loving the T40 as well, to the extent that I've decided to change my plan and keep it for another year.

Interestingly, after all the criticism that outdrives get, some good news for a change yesterday: we were out for a quick swim in the afternoon, and then the wind did that weird Med thing where it suddenly completely changed direction, and got really quite strong - from F3 to F6 in an hour (according to xc weather, anyway). So we headed back to the berth, and Med-mooring in a cross wind when the neighbouring boat isn't there can get a bit untidy - and so it did yesterday. Got blown across the neighbouring berth, and managed to collect one of his lazy lines round my port prop. Luckily, not in gear. Even more luckily, spotted by swmbo. Because we've got outdrives, all we had to do was trim the drive up to beach, unhook the offending line, and trim back down again. Absolutely zero drama and no expensive diver charges.

Cheers
Jimmy

J, I know this is an old thread but I emailed Steve to see if he still supplied replacement lenses and he said:

"Unfortunately Volvo Penta gauges are made under licence and are a different diameter to our standard gauges. You will have to contact Volvo Penta for a replacement."

What was it you ordered from him?

Pete

Steve has sent a further reply:

"That was for our product line called the Oceanline series, The tachometer in that range has an 85mm Lens. Your instrument only has a 72mm lens."

I'm confused. Does the T40 have not the same Tachos as a T30 (Volvo Penta 873992)?

Nope - jrudge's T40 was a D6 boat, so EVC-B and the tacho would have been part number 881646 (which is 85mm).

Another question (apols if this is competing for the most boring thread ever), is the lens flat or is it domed and does it have a lipped edge?

If you're asking about the T40 tachos then I have no idea but send me a text reminder tomorrow afternoon and I'll have a look for you.

Cannot help at all. But Pete have I missed a thread, have you actually bought a targa or checking the todo list for a candidate?

V

Checking the to do list for a candidate but to be honest things like this (and the damaged windscreen) are likely to be an issue on all boats of of the type and age.

Hopefully I'm getting close to buying one (might be seeing another one in the next couple of weeks). When I do buy I'll be boring everyone with a refurb thread but don't expect it to be in the same league as JTB's let alone your own (think 50 hours not 5000)!

Anyhow, it's all accumulated knowledge isn't it? Note that those Tachometers are the best part of £300 each so not cheap items (the hour meters are another weak point but they can sometimes be repaired with a hair dryer or new LCD displays can be fitted).

An old thread, but, did anyone find a solution? Asked Volvo for a price, and was told they don't do replacement lenses, you have to buy new instruments. That's €2.2k for an evc c system! Seems nuts for something that's been in the sun for a total of around 100hrs.
Wonder if anyone has tried telling them they are not fit for purpose & taking them to court ?

As per the first post I made some while ago you can buy the replacement lenses, but they are a bugger to fit.
