Ive just serviced my VP D6 and after paying £130 on new OEM filters a saw a Fuel filter for £15 on the net so I purchased one. I wanted to see the difference between an OEM filter and the cheap one, so I cut open the used OEM and the new cheapo and this is what I found.
The cheap filter was far smaller in diameter and width and had far less pleats than the OEM. Would I use one on my D6.. no way!

Maybe I am overthinking this but there are a few variables to toss into the equation.
Depends on the numbers of hrs and Fq of change .
The maths still stack up of you were to double the cheapo change Fq to 2x season .
Further more the quality of the recipient fuel , mega sludge up , bugged up is gonna knacker both equally, so may as well trash cheapos with crap fuel .

Worth carrying as get you home spares as little £ tied up .

I bought 4 Fram fuel filters, 2 for each of my two TAMD370 engines. On the second trip one fell off on each engine within minutes. Unexpectedley, I was amazed that the engines still ran, albeit pouring fuel in to the area under the engines. It was a dangerous situation. Frams response to the situation was denial denial denial that their product didnt fit properley. They were uninterested.

Anyway the lesson for me is to stick with the proper manufacturer and pay the extra. I certainly wont be buying Fram ever again!!!

I would say yes less pleats, but they are longer so maybe surface area the same?
Main thing with fuel filters is what microns do they filter down to?
