Hi
I have a problem with one of my d6's intermitently.
when I power up onto the plane sometimes my starboard engine sounds the alarm and the caution light goes on and it goes into limp home mode. if I turn the engine off and on it is fine again. One thing I have noticed is that the volt meters seem to go up and down iraticly at full throttle they move a distance of about half the the gauge.
when I bought the boat it had dead batterries which I have on charge all the time now but they dont turn the engine over very fast. could this be related to the problem?.
cheers Barry

Hi Barry,
Think we met at the Sealine do at the Boatshow. Sorry to hear you are having issues with the new boat. Not too familiar with the D6 so can't really help with your problem save to say that it sounds as though new batteries are in order?

With regard to the erratic volt meters does the belt need tensioning? Might be a link between the two I.e. Batteries not charging properly?

Depending on the EVC generation you might be able to read the fault code from the tacho when it is 'active' (i.e. as it happens) - whats the engine serial number? If you can get the fault code then you'll have a better idea of where to start looking for the problem.

I am having exactly the same problem with my D3s -turn engine off and on and it is OK. Local Volvo Penta dealer is on the case and i will let you know the outcome in due course.

It would be best to contact a Volvo dealer to plug in the Vodia. It "should" take you streight to the problem and save much frustration.

It sounds like a massive voltage drop to the ecu caused by the engine that you start after the first one, id make sure your start battery has the rated cca cranking capacity amperage. There could also be a poor connection on the starter motor leads and earth to the engine.

Hi thanks for the tips.
I think it is the cranking battery but an engineer said he will scan it for me to see if any faults are logged.
