Volvo Penta D4 / DP-H Drives

Hi Guys

I have twin Volvo Penta D4’s with DP-H Outdrives. I also have joystick control


Just noticed that sometimes after a long run and maybe heating up the starboard Outdrives does not engage in gear , forward or reverse . After a little rev , it engages. Just wondering would it be the clutch cone or something else .

Any suggestions would be great. Boat still in the water but just preparing myself for lift out .

If the clutch cone has engaged ‘gently’ rather than a proper ‘clunk’ that is a likely cone issue

Could also be low oil level.

It seems to go into gear when I rev it up a little .

First check gearshift adjustment, if its ok then it sounds lije the clutch is glazed and not engaging properly, sometimes it can be fixed by using grinding paste to remove the polished surface on the clutch and gear. Wirst case you need a new clutch if the grooves are worn down.

Check oil level and quality, especially for any water ingress.
