I believe Volvo have a case to answer for the faulty design of their Marine engine plastic Sea Water Strainer lids on the Volvo D4 & D6 Engines. On searching the internet forums I have found this to be a common problem.

Volvo are refusing to instigate a recall of this part which Volvo have virtually admitted was faulty by introducing a NEW retro-fit steel lid upgrade, albeit at a cost of £120 each. (Breaking NEWS just heard they have dropped the cost of the lids now to just £20 each but have yet to have this confirmed by Volvo).

A Sinking Problem

This is a serious life threatening issue which Volvo are putting profits before peoples lives over. Our own Boat was in danger of sinking 3 miles out at Sea on March 11th 2012 in the Mediterranean when our Port engines sea water strainer screw on plastic lid developed a massive leak at 3,000 rpm and above. The engine had only done 80 hours and was just outside of the Volvo 2 year warranty.

The problem was fixed by installing the new upgraded steel lids with 4 clamps, has anyone else experienced this problem?
