Hiya,

Sorry new to this so I hope I make some sense.

I have a small speedboat with a VP AQ200D with 280 PTT sterndrive. have only owned the boat for approx 6 months and now stored ready fro next year but having used it in summer found that when powering up the steering tries to turn the boat to the left and you have to really fight the wheel to keep it straight and fight even more to turn to the right. when pootling along it is fine and light. Wondered if anyone could possible throw any light onto this situation.

Thanks

I am assuming that you have trim & tilt. Your symptoms are most likely occuring because you havent quite got the tilt right when you are powering up, at cruise or top end speed.

You are feeling the pull of the screw thrust from the prop. I found on other boats I had that you know when your leg trim is right becuase you can 'hands-off' and motor striaght if the trim is right in other words leg down to far - pulls to starboard, leg to high - pulls to port.

recommend when you are in water in the new season try this.

If you have power steering then this of course is all irrelvant because you cant feel the pull through the sterring.

I suspect that the drive may not be the original check the gear ratio should be 1.6:1

when you say you fitted the trim fin did you set it up as per the hand book
you should be able to get it right for cruising speed with the drive in at least one position

most legs have some prop torque but it is usually able to be cancelled
