Volvo Penta 2003t and Volvo Penta 2003, I suppose its same engine, one with the turbo and one with out it.
Is it possible to remove the turbo and use it just as normal 2003 engine ( with some kind of kit if that is possible).
Which one is more reliable ?

I’ll bite

As a past owner of a 2003, it was an ok engine, never let me down (other than some water leaks). No direct experience of the turbo version.

But these are now very old engines,, with parts becoming harder to come by. Whyare you considering one? Surely far better to consider much newer designs (even if second hand) ??

Yes, base engine is much same design, but there are quite a few overall differences. Both engines will have much the same problems as each other, though the 2003t has more components. Yes you could remove the turbo if you could fabricate something to replace it with for the exhaust. The engine would run fine, the 2003t has a boost pipe to the governor assembly to give the engine extra fuel when on boost, so without the boost from the turbo it will be fuelling as if it's naturally aspirated. But don't know why you would want to remove the turbo? The engine would now be over propped. And you would have to do something with the oil feed.

Would it run fine? The 2003T has different injectors, different fuel pumps, and different injection timing.

This caused a lot of agro between VP and Moody over the idea that the turbo just acted as extra power that could be turned on if required but resulted in a lot of overpowered boats with engines suffering from lack of work.
The idea of just unbolting the turbocharger is not a viable option for various reasons.
You don’t say why you are thinking of it so a little more information could facilitate more appropriate answers

If you can use the power of the turbocharged engine then

It was just idea if we get stuck somewhere that turbo get stuck.
We have bought our Aphrodite 36 early this year and she was seating ashore for about a year and I guess, engine didn't work since she was taken out. Turbo was stuck and didn't spin at all. Thank God, I have found second hand turbo on this forum, and we quickly replaced as soon she was launched last week. Stacked turbo I give to my trusty mechanic to make it work, so when is fixed we will keep spare on board. On our old boats we had very old Volvo and I never had any problems with them, they were extremely reliable. First time with turbo and I hope it will be as good as the one that we had before.
Thank so much for your inputs.
