Wondering in anyone can point me in the right direction, I have a falcon 23spc with a volvo penta AQ205 was rebuilt but has a twin carb on should be a 4 barrel so I'm looking to purchase one. Anybody suggest a good place I may find one. Not sure on ebay as dont want to buy a complete unknown

Thanks

Is the original carb a Rochester Quadrajet? (I believe these were used on some of the Volvo petrols) - If so they're readily available as tons of American cars ran them.

The above fella has it spot on. Should be a Rochester 4 barrel on there for sure. Be a strange thing for someone to have put a 2 barrel on her. Most times that would need a different inlet manifold too. You might find your assumed aq205 May no longer be as she was originally. Often the case that engines have been replaced or partly replaced with other variants of similar engines, somewhere over the years. Tell tale sign would be if there is any black painted parts anywhere down there. Would indicate it’s maybe part mercruiser, remanufactured or hybrid of all sorts. Very common.

Thanks mate, yeah engine was rebuilt with new block in 2014 before I owned it, looks like it's a aq500 , believe 5.0 v8 . There is fitting a plate underneath the carb

Yeah. I’d say that’s not an AQ205 at all. That’s a v8. Likely a mercruiser donor engine (although some years of VP were occasionally black, but as far as I know all the AQ VP versions were red) I’d think she’ll be around 220hp give or take with a 2 barrel. Not totally sure, but to change to a 4 barrel you may need a different manifold, depending on the carb and year of engine. The original AQ205 was a V6 4.3l with a 4 barrel Rochester. This 5.0 will have a little more power for sure. The later vortec ones had more again. With big carb or efi they were about 240hp. Then the last of them was about 260hp with mpi

I have a used one on Gumtree at £325.00 if you wish to search for it Volvo penta V6 carburettor.

Thanks turns out the engine is an Aq500 5l v8 not aq205 was re built in 2014 you think it's still the right carb? see your in poole moving from Christchurch to cobbs in march .

Hi again. I’m not totally sure it would be considered an aq500, if you’re ever having to look for parts and searching for that. I’d say it has a much newer looking 2 barrel carb and manifold than that. Suppose, like we agreed earlier, it’s a hybrid of a few different things perhaps. Be closer to an AQ211 perhaps…if anything. Not sure. I still think that there is a fair chance that going from a 2 barrel to 4 barrel, usually requires the inlet manifold to be changed, half the time. Or at least some sort of adapting perhaps. Where on the engine is the plate that says aq500 ? Or is that just from the flame arrestor air filter cover it says that ?

maybe this will help! looks like a chevy 302 or 307 block, what year is the boat. engine most likely late 80's/early 90's otherwise would be HFI ignition or later EFI engine

I found the original sale documents and it said it was an aq500, but again its definitely a fee parts as it had a new block rebuilt in 2014 and there is definitely an adaptor plate on the bottom on the 2 barrel carb. Going to pull it off and take some pictures and then hopefully I can tell if it will take a 4 barrel card or I just re build the 2 barrel. Thanks for your help
maybe this will help! looks like a chevy 302 or 307 block, what year is the boat. engine most likely late 80's/early 90's otherwise would be HFI ignition or later EFI engine
Yep 1991 boat

1991, would be the 500b engine (1991-93) these were fitted with Rochester quadrajet 2bbl or 4bbl and the Holly 4bbl double pumper carbs, dependant on tuning all were rated 210hp. you will need to check the serial number with volvo penta to find which you should have or try to marry the inlet manifold to a carb. although all should fit with the correct adapter plate. also the pipe from the fuel pump to carburettor should be steel not rubber. your set up should be a BSS fail.

Thanks mate 500b makes the most sense . Dont know about that pipe but thanks for pointing it out
