The search facility seems to be broke so I have a question.
Went out today & when we got a little speed up the starboard trim gauge went from 0 to 5, & then to 9, at this point she started handling strangely so took her back in & indeed the actual drive itself is way out, not just the trim gauge. To add insult to injury the port engine alarmed & shut down while we were backing in with the error "check shift actuator". All recently serviced & in warranty but I would be interested to hear any opinions from those that have been there before.

Hi rubberduck
Just a wonder as I've had a similar issue, the rams themselves have seals and they can die the result is that when on the plain or trimming at any time the legs " Creep " it will go up due to the oil in the legs, 1 leaking out and 2 the oil gets water back inside the hydraulics and as the oil doesn't normally compress the water does making the whole thing Spongy meaning the legs exaggerate the issue.

how to check is the oil bottle milky in appearance, or after stationary and trimming the leg up and down a few times is there oil residue on the waters surface ?

hope that helps

P.s if the rams have gone its an out the water job sorry !!!

Leg rams.

While boat is stationary get somebody to cycle the leg up and down while you look over the back of the boat.
If the ram seals/hoses are damaged or worn, you will see a thin sheen of oil on the water after a short while. If the seal are really bad you may even see droplets of ram oil rising to the surface from the site of the problem.
Needs to be fixed fairly quickly BUT if you really really want to use the boat for a day out or two,it is high unlikely to let you down completely.
The rams are a real pain to do money and time wise so check the problem of leg moving does not lie elsewhere.

Not sure about the later drives, but when my DP-E moved up on it's own, it was sticky relays. Replaced both relays (there's one for up and one for down) and the problem didn't return.

If the drive trims out while under way on its own, it can only be an electrical fault as the thrust from the prop is pushing the drive in and if there was any kind of leak internal/external the leg will creep down not up.
