I am looking to source a replacement oil filter for my Volvo 2002. The Volvo part No is 834337 and I can get an official Volvo item ( at Volvo prices). Does anyone have the numbers for equivalent ( and possibly cheaper) replacements by Cooper or Champion for example?

Not sure what it's like in the Uk, but in Canada, and I suspect anywhere else, if you take a filter part number into any store that sells filters, they have a huge book (probably on computer now) that they can immediately cross reference to any filter make.
sam :-)

not possible when the filter has been resprayed in engine Co colours

I buy mine from www.asap-supplies.com who have generic filters for lots of engines including Volvo.I used to buy Volvo parts for my VP2003 engine until I realised the parts are supplied by others like Bosch etc.I also used to buy them in Holland but now they are mega expensive there.

ASAP are usually my first port of call, but this time they couldn't help and were unable to match the Volvo filter numbers with anything they had. The Westerly equivalents don't seem to work either. I looked up the websites to see the equivalent recommended units and they are nothing like the Volvo part, mostly too tall and likely to foul the alternator drive belt.

I think I must bite the bullet and give my cash to Volspec.
