Has anyone had a loss of oil pressure when oil is changed, went from normal 60psi to 38, This engine was overhauled by Coastalrides? around xmas it has run 20-30 hrs and before going away oil was changed and new filter fitted engine run and now low oil pressure, its not sender, its not the relief valve.

Our only other area is if thick oil has been used to mask low pressure and engine has not been overhauled as stated.

Not sure if this will apply to your particular engine, but on the petrol V8's I am familiar with, If I had low oil pressure the first thing I would check is that the oil pump has been properly primed on re-assembly. The oil itself is often too thin to properly prime by itself so the pump requires packing with petroleum jelly to ensure it primes correctly when re-started for the first time.

What is the oil pressure when started from cold? Does it start normal and drop to 38 psi or does it also start low?

Wins mate, bung a can of that in there, it will sort that out.

Does the pressure go normal when you put some revs on?

You say you've checked pressure relief valves, did you check both the external ones or the one on the pump as well??
1/ Pump does not need priming
2/ Don't use Wynns, will cause more problems than it solves.

Oil companies spend a fortune on formulating oils with the ideal balance of additives, anti scuff agents, antioxidants, detergents, viscosity stablisers.Etc:
There is nothing in Wynns that isn't already in ordinary oil (if it is needed) it's just thicker.
All Wynns will do is mask the problem not solve it. The fact that it is so thick can lead to top end oil staravation, because what little oil pressure it has is used up trying to push treacle to the top of the engine. Cure the fault, not the symptons.

don't know if it would cause such a pressure drop....but some pattern oil-filters haven't got much inside at all, maybe worth trying another?
