Mitsubishi did the same thing for VLCC propulsion systems about ten years
ago. Contra rotating props. Wonderful idea but the cost killed it. It was
fitted on one of the Cosmo boats and on the bridge was a working model. When
you went astern there was virtually no transverse thrust. Lovely to play
with and the vessel is still in service I think but I believe it was the
only one to have that kind of drive fitted.
