On a wet and windy Sunday with nothing better to do, I thought I would thumb through some old boat magazines a friend gave me, and came across an article for a salt water flush system called Neutra- Salt. Its a Volvo item and is basically a reservoir containing the neutra salt solution and a solenoid valve to inject it into the cooling system and the end of the day. The article was in MBY April 2006 edition and Neale Byart fitted it to a KAD32. I have never heard of or seen one before. Having had two boats with D4s and the issues with salt in the cooling system I was wondering whether it was worth fitting or just a gimmick. Would like to hear some views about it.

Our old boat had it fitted, vp 4.3 v6, new in 2009, sold in 2018 still with orignal ex manifolds on which I was sure would be well shagged, but upon removal were still in good nick.
The fluid though is very expensive, imho to expensive.
I did think at the time a hose fitting on the hull so you could flush the engine/s with fresh water might be a better idea, and certainly much cheaper in the long run.

Can only see it doing some good. Would be more useful in a raw water cooled engine I suspect, as it would protect the block itself, but even in a FWC engine it will look after the manifolds/exhaust elbows/risers/heat exchangers etc. Do VP still sell it? Guess you could use Salt Away or any other salt removing liquid, as long as it was compatible with the metals used in your engine.
