Volvo MD7B Power Loss

When removing the push rod lift it just a bit and wiggle it around so the tappet falls away. This saves having to try and locate it if you totally remove it due to oil suction at the push rod end.

If I remember correctly there are two bolts that hold the rocker arms on. So if I take the rockers off I'll be able to take each push rod out and check them. If I roll them on a piece of glass and use gauges I should be able check for straightness. They are ground rods so I presume i'd expect them to be within 2 thou or am I being a bit hopeful?

Anyway thanks for the suggestion. If it is bad news can I get replacements do you know? Graeme

You might have to search a bit to find them . Meanwhile at least straighten them if bent. I have some old push rods
for an MD2B which would certainly need some attention before being used. :o One of them seems to be made out of
two pieces so where there is a will there is a way!

I think I'll worry about replacement once checked. I'm sure a local machine shop will be able to remanufacture something for me if needs be. By the way my brother in-law sails out of Stonehaven, lovely harbour. Not sure where on the east coast you are Bilgediver.

If they are bent they can be sorted one way or another however if bent to a few MM out of true which can easily happen they will fracture if not dealt with . A few though out might upset the purists but is of little consequence in these engines as valve spring forces are relatively low.

Stonehaven is a good stopping off place when sailing the East coast. I used to be involved in the Oil industry so was up there often from our HQ in Edinburgh.
We have the chippy in Stonehaven to thank for that delicacy deep fried Mars Bar!
