Folks

I am looking to change my boat and am looking at a boat with a Volvo MD5 C / 120S sail drive which are both original (1983) the hull seal has been replaced in 99 and the top end of the engine rebuilt in the last few years. The main questions I have are how long does a sail drive leg last? Also I have heard lots of scary stories about
Volvos what are the problems with this version.

Thanks for your reply's

I have an MD5B with 110 leg, now 25 years new...a very basic single cylinder still "touch wood" going strong treat it with respect and it will go for another 25 years, oil change twice a season with a very basic single grade oil"Comma Clasic" sae 30 at £12 gallon. My leg is fine Volvo recomend the seal is changed every 8 years or there abouts. If it does give serious trouble the spares are astronomical and would mean beyond economical repair....what boat is it in?

Paul.
