Hi,

My name's JC & I'm new to the forum, having just found it this afternoon. It looks like a great place for information & help on all those head scratching problems associated with keeping a boat afloat!!!! So here's one for you all.

I'm geting water mixed in with the oil. The engine was stripped down a couple of years ago, &, amongst the other work, the head gasket, top & bottom O rings around the cylinder jacket were all replaced.
The engine starts easily & runs fine, even from cold in the winter, so the compression is good & therefore do not suspect a blown head gasket or warped head, I would asume the O rings should last more than 2 seasons(especially considering the cost of Volvo parts)

Obviously I'm going to have to strip it again to clear up the problem, but have any of you any ideas of other areas to look at whilst I'm doing this.

Thanks in advance,
JC

welcome to the forum. You will undoubtedly get lots of advice here - frequently contradictory so you will have to assess each and every answer and always remember that there is no guarantee with any of the answers /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I dont have a boaty answer to your problem, but it does sound similar to a probelm that I had with an old Ford V6 (Essex engine) The problem with that one was not the headgasket, but the inlet manifold gasket. It passed water and oil between the heads and was where the split was eventually traced.

Not familiar with this engine, could the water be entering the engine
from the water pump !
On some engines if the pump seals are shot it can let the water enter the crankcase.

Got new seals & checked out the water pump at the weekend. The Allen bolts holding the pump on were pretty tight & access wasn't very good, so decided to wait until the boats lifted in the spring & pull the engine out. I think it will be easier in the long run, I'll be able to get a better purchase on the bolts & (hopefully) avoid shearing them!!!!.

Thanks for your help.
