Hi all

recently purchased a boatthat has a Volvo MD2030D fitted. The engine was installed as a nearly new unit professionally but has not been used in the water as the boat stayed on the hard for a number of years. However I’m l looking at the sea water inlet and the bore seems very small. The water comes in, goes to a strainer, to the gear box bearing and then around the engine and out of the exhaust.
The inlet seacock barb bore is 13mm then into 16mm pipe to go around the gear box bearing. After that there is an elbow that expands the pipe work to 19mm through the pump and around the engine and out of the exhaust.
Does anyone know what the required intake diameter for an MD2030 is as this size seems small to me?
I did have an engineer look at it who said it would be fine- but I’m not convinced!
One of the issues is that the barbs on the gearbox bearing that is water cooled is for 16mm pipe.

she is not in the water so can’t test under load.

3/4" is the norm. sounds like that was re-engined to replace an older engine which used a 1/2". As you can see the main flow is 19mm hence the need for the larger inlet - the elbow is a bodge.

Hi- I’m thinking that! However, why are the inlet/outlet on the gearbox bearing cooling for 16mm pipe! Or should they be for 19mm as standard?

Sorry don't know about the gearbox, only has saildrive with a 2030 and that is 3/4" and 19mm all the way.
