I had a problem recently of needing to undo the crankshaft nut, removing the pully and timing gear casing. The knowledgeable members of this forum kindly supplied the necessary info for doing same.
The reason! the stop-control pin which goes through the casing and connects (I believe) to the injector pump rack via a cam(?) had dropped back into the bush housing it-drat!
It was still visible but inaccessible-I tried many things & many hours to pull it back into position.
Off came the crankshaft nut & off came the pulley too. A small hammer tap and the casing came away from the gasket but still connected to the injector pump as John Morris UK rightly stated
The offending stop-control pin was removed via the gap between casing & block and a small spring discovered at the bottom of the casing. Yes, I was warned about them.
I now need someone to re-assemble it for me as I don't know the spring set-up for the stop control.
Any suggestions for a mechanic in the above area who can help would be appreciated.
TIA
Alan
