Duster

I'm advise this place is the fount of all knowhow relating to an elderly MD2010B....
Advice, please?
(A) I need to remove the raw water pump to renew the seals. Four hex bolts, one head rusted. Is the inner end of the shaft threaded or slit? How best does one remove it?
(B) I have an oil leak from the sump pan somewhere. Access for inspection and remedy is proving v. difficult, due to the positioning of the runs of 2 raw water 'inward' and 'return' rubber hoses blocking access under the front/central. Shaft drive, not 'leg'.
These 2 hoses seem to meet at the rear/lower block ( according to diagrams ) but it is not clear what function is served by them being connected there. Could I disconnect them from back there and join them together in front of the engine, routing straight from the nearby strainer to the raw water pump on the front/high of the engine? That would give me clearer access underneath the sump, for inspection by mirror/hand/endoscope.
