my engine has been lying for acouple of years but has been runing ok when i put it in the water now it wont start it started to cut out with a lot of black and lumpy oily type grease coming frpm the exaust when under pressure ,when ticking over now it wont start i have renewed the filters bled the system removed the injector to check that the fuel was going through i have even tried a fresh drum of diesel with a hose what els could it be

Take the injector out, turn the engine over by hand to get rid of any gunge. Flush out with deisel. It might be a good idea to clean out the exhaust. Drain and flush out the fuel tank, replace filters if dirty or full of water. Bleed fuel through to injector and try starting.

How does the compression feel when turning over by hand, it needs to be quite good. If its not to good perhaps the piston rings have seized in, or it could be the valves or valve seats. If you have to strip the engine pay particular attention to the corrosion in the coolant waterways. Any thing else can be fixed at a whopping cost, but its the corrosion that will be the end of it. There comes a time!
