Volvo MD 2020 engine

The Volvo 2020 was a Japanese engine originally produced as Perkins M20,the earlier models had a cast iron neat exchanger but later models were aluminium,the starter motors are Mitsubishi as used in cars,the alternators Lucas A127 freely available,the later Md2020 became more complicated in the electics and thus more unreliable.I have the Perkins M20 and consider it a good engine but as others have said the exhaust elbow clogs up.

Only issues I had are waterpump and blocked exhaust elbow. The exhaust elbow needs to be removed every 3-4 years and throughly cleaned out
