VOLVO MD 17D fitting calorifier

Don't know about tapping pionts for your engin, they are usually somwhere on the head. Usual advice for fitting is that the calorifier should be level or below the top of the header tank but as this is almost always impossible the trick is to fit a raised header (old header tank from a car). You also need to make sure you can bleed the air from the calorifier at the hightest piont either by loosening a conection or fitting a drain cock. Keep pipe runs as straight and short as possible. f you have to mount the tank either a long way from the engin or well above it you might need to look at an additional circulation pump as the engine pump may not get enough water to it.

Hi, fitted a calorifier to one of my MD17d engines earlier this year. Took a drain plug from one cylinder, connected hose, with a constant circulating pump attached, to coil in calorifier. Took hose from outlet on coil back to next cylinder. No need for header tanks! Have had a full season with no problems and HOT water. Many said the temperature would be too low but no complaints from the galley slave!
