Whats the main difference between KAMD42 230hp and the later KAMD43 230hp engines folks? Are the later engines any better?

I think the difference is............

Old KAD 42 = crap. Pistons and valves always going kaput.

Over the years KAD 42 evolved with Volvo putting the bad bits right.

When they finished sorting out the KAD 42, making it a half decent engine they called it a KAD 43.

Re: And another thing

K is for Kompressor
A is for Aquamatic
D is for Drive

At least I think it is not 100% sure on the D tho.

AsI understand it the KAD42's don't have silencers fitted on the superchargers whereas the KAD43's do. The supercharger's on the 42's are very noisy and I have had silencers fitted - you can't hear the supercharger's with silencers.

Re: Jim

OK finally found V&^*o price list, Diesel Aquamatics on legs are K if supercharged etc. as someone has said, with no M so therefore KAD43P etc, the inboard equivalent on shafts would be KAMD43P, I'd assume M being marine gearbox or something similar.
I thought T was turbocharged but although the inboard uses a T designation the same engine on a leg doesn't, eg. TAMD31P is Turbo, marine gearbox, AD31P is same engine on a leg, so I'm a tad confused.
A friend of ours is Svedish so I'll ask her whether M is gearbox or whatever in Swedish.

Re: Jim

OK update, just spoken to Swedish friend, gearbox in Swedish would be Viksundorfer(sp) so M don't mean gearbox in this context, her comment was could be Marine as Swedish Marine is Marina.
