Hello,
Is 2200 hours a concern on a 29 year old Kad42 engine that has had confirmed annual servicing and that has been used in salt water? I know it depends on many factors but I wondered what life expectancy in years/hours could be achieved on that engine.
Thanks,
Rob Powell

In my view the KAD43 was the most reliable engine ever made by VP. The 42 was of course the forerunner so a good engine.
Some head gasket problems I believe on the early ones after some not so bright value engineering by VP.

On any marine engine, the oily bits will last forever, its the watery cooling bits that will have needed the care over the last couple of decades.
The oily bits are inexpensive, simple easy to maintain stuff, therefore likely to have been done.
Failure will be fast and obvious.
The cooling system is complicated and time consuming ie. time consuming and expensive.

One of the above two is less likely to have received the love and care it demands.

That should be good for another 2000 hrs given TLC and the right maintenance.
