Hi folks,
As the engines are 22 years old, thinking of replacing the thermostats on both engines, as preventative maintenance.

Going on this diagream: Thermostat Housing: A

Is it a case of just loosening the 4 x 16 (part no) bolts and then the 1 x 14 (part no) bolt in the above diagram?

What gaskets etc. should also be replaced?

While we're on the subject... Volvo don't make thermostats.... anyone got a non-OEM I can refer to a motor factors?

Many thanks.

Thanks for the link. When I went up a level I do see gaskets alright.... just would be nice to know for sure exactly whats gaskets are needed so I know for sure i'll have everything when I decide to do the job.

You shouldn't need to replace the gasket it is rubber and reusable. Just the 4 bolts on top need undoing. The two thermostats IIRC are not the same though. IIRC one starts to open 5 degree C before the other. I would have to look at the book of words again but I think its 80 and 85 C.

Thanks for the info re. gasket.

I'll check the volvo OEM parts and see if the thermostats themselves are different part numbers.

Afaik both are the same with both having the same part number . Volvo claims opening temp is 82 and fully open at 93 deg celsius .
