Got up nice and early (?) this morning and got to the boat in plenty of time to go racing - went to start the engine and the EVC panel came up and beeped ok, pushed the start button and nothing ..except the panel turned itself off. There was a little relay ticking (sometimes) in the black box but not enough power to throw the solenoid let alone start the engine.

The battery was showing 12.5 volts when we arrived so all seemed well there - we even gave it 1/2 an hour on the charger but to no avail.

Seastart had a look and agreed that the batteries seemed fine and reckon the black box has packed up but apparently it is the second time they have seen this problem. The first time was yesterday !!

Missed 2 rounds of the series /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Anyone else seen this ?

I have the same problem. I start now the engine with a short string of wire going from the plus (alternator) to the starter motor relays.

When the engine is warm, the EVC works. It probably has to do with the glow plugs - electronic box.

Thanks for that Kandoma - the Seastart (marine breakdown service) engineer offered to jump the power to the solenoid but was concerned that should the panel switch off the alternator would burn out. If that does not appear to be a problem perhaps I will try it. There is still 18 mths Volvo warranty to run tho ..... I might save that for an emergency

The first time I have done this, I checked the wiring with a Voltmeter. The battery is connected directly to the alternator. So, even if the ELV box is removed, the alternator can not blow out.
