Hello folks,
I have 2x duoprop drive legs coupled to AD41's. My problem is, that one of the trim indicators is showing -8 all the time, regardless of leg position. The other leg also did the same, until I waggled the connector behind the turbo, which comes off the potentiometer.
Obviously, I tride the same trick with the other engine, but no joy. I have swapped over the trim indicators port to starboard and the fault stays with the drive leg.
It all really went to worms after I tried fitting a second pair of trim gauges for the flybridge. Plugging the 2nd gauge in, made that leg show -8 regardless. Removing restored the correct readings. I came back a few days later and both gauges at the lower helm were on -8(stbd wire waggling fixed it here). Normally with the leg trimmed right up against the transom they read -5 or 6, and trimmed out, they go as far as +3 when the over-ride button is needed to trim out to +40.
I'm worried about using the trim as I was told that running the engines with the legs > +3 is curtains for the rubber bellows.
Why do they make access so flippin awkward?!!
My next try is to have someone watch the stbd indicator as i disconnect the leg pot to see if that makes the gauge go to -8.
The diagram for these indicators show a red/white, black/white and a green/white going to the pot from the gauge. Not sure if this is continuous as there must be a link up to the flybridge somewhere.

Are you saying you have the problem with the extra flybridge gauges disconnected.

I would try to put it all back the way it was first and see if you still have a problem. Maybe you need some extra kit to add a second set of gauges?

I have trouble with one of mine at the moment, but I know its the pot. While waiting to get it done I run it with the other one so I know where it is. (they move at about the same speed)

I bring them both all the way in, then drive out to desired position together usiing the gauge on the good one.

Good luck

Yes, the problem is with or without the second gauges connected now, however, prior to plugging in the remote gauges, both legs worked ok. After plugging in the second gauge, the leg with 2 gauges read -8 on the lower helm, and the flybridge gauge didn't read at all. Unplugging the gauge restored normal operation... Except now of course, port leg is sulking reading -8 ALL the time.
The same scenario repeated when I plugged the flybridge gauge on the starboard leg, and restored to working on disconnection.
Good tip about running one leg at the same time as the other and watching the gauge, but I think the port leg (-8 all the time) moves quicker than the stbd (working properly) leg. The oil level is a little below the full mark in both reservoirs so I'll top that up and time them both fully in to fully out.
