Coming back from St Kats last week we picked up fuel on a 'splash and dash' at Ramsgate before carrying on to Sovereign Harbour. On leaving the fuel barge the joystick control deactivated itself and an error msg of 'limited steering; limited RPM' appeared on the starboard tacho display.
I shut everything down & restarted (several times) but the system shutdown again within 1 to 5 minutes.
We tied her up and I checked the Operators Manual which helpfully advised 'contact VP Service Centre' but at 6pm on a Bank Holiday (next day being a public holiday too) SWMBO was not best pleased!
I checked for loose connections on the system and also the steering fluid level. Nothing apparently wrong.
I then restarted the engine and worked the steering from full lock to full lock a few times. No problems appeared so we untied and tried a few manoeuvres initially just with the steering and then with the joystick - again no warnings. On this basis we left and made Sovereign without further incident - much to everyone's relief!
Was this likely to be a one off or symptomatic of future problems?
Have other users had sensor issues on VP engines to which they found solutions themselves?
