Repowering a Nelson 45 next winter and I was pretty much fixed on the Volvo. But someone has suggested it might not be the best choice for me as I spend long periods at idle speed, generally 8-12 hours at a time, around 25 times a season. Being supercharged, the Volvo may not like that kind of operation?

Any thoughts on the above or on either engine generally? I’m looking to use a down angle electronic gearbox with trolling valves.
(Twin installation)

Last year we fitted 4 new Iveco N60's to commercial fast fishers. By their very nature, fishing boats have to do hours of slow stuff and the full power runs. Fantastic engines and much cheaper to service than a D6, of which we service many.

JSYmartini, I see you are in Jersey. 3 of the Iveco fitted boats were from your local fishing fleet. Go and ask them what they think of them down at the quay, we did them here in GSY.

The D6 can suffer from leaking O rings on the heat exchanger/oil cooler & intercooler.
If not caught in time it can get expensive.

Slightest sign of white fur around the end caps & it's time to renew the O rings. Again not cheap.

Cheers,
