Volvo D4 engine issue - engine won't rev above 2500rpm - out at sea now!

Having an issue with our D4 engines today during a trip back to Portsmouth from Lymington - when coming out of Lymington the EVC system showed a warning of "caution check evc system" - looking in the manual it says if you see this warning to turn the engines off fully and reboot the system - this was completed however one of the engines is now not revving above 2500rpm. Is there any other resets we could complete?

We are heading to Gosport now to check the engine so if anyone knows what the issue could be or how to resolve the problem that would be great to know as we where hoping to continue using the boat today. Any help would be appreciated

See if your displays show the turbo preshure if there is a big difference you could try swapping the boost preshure sensors between the engines.
Remove black covers on top of engines and locate the sensor in the inlet manifold, remove the bolt with a 10mm spanner and swap over.

Sounds like that is the problem. We did check the reading on the evc system for the turbos. The readings match up to 2000rpm then they go uneven as the defected engine sticks at a certain rev range whereas the other engine revs freely. It defiantly sounds like the sensor from searching other posts and hearing similar stories. Strangely when we took it out again to test the engine it did manage to go above 2000rpm then when we back off to idle then backup the rev range the problem came back.

If swapping the sensor moved the fault to the other engine then you know the sensor is the problem and your turbos are fine. Its the temp sensor part of the combined boost/temp sensor that always fails, they usually read 90-100 degrees C, which causes the ECU to cut back on fuel delivery hence limited rpm.
If you don't swap the sensor and go to a Volvo dealer, ask them to connect the Vodia tool and go into engine data and read off what the temp the sensor is showing, then you can be sure they fit the right part.

I have just had exactly the same fault.

Changed Boost pressure temp sender, pre and engine filters and cleaned props. Problem solved by Volvo agent , prop hub spinning on stbd rear prop. Had it re-bushed at Steel Developments.
