I was out yesterday in 20+ knot winds and confused seas so proceeding slowly but bouncing around a bit trying to get to Brightlingsea from Rochester. After battling it out for a couple of hours off the Essex coast, I decided that it was getting too uncomfortable and turned back putting the wind and sea behind me.
As soon as I started on this course "surfing" the waves, an audible alarm and the little black square thing on the control panel started lighting up . I don't know what this alarm signal is for as there is also a VP visual alarm monitor (guage with exclamation mark in centre) which did not show up any issues and the voltage, coolant temp and oil pressure gauges were all perfectly normal.
Initially, it was only intermittent and went off for a very short time and coincided with the rolling of the boat. I kept the speed down to 6 knots as I didn't know what the problem was. As time progressed, the alarms stayed on for longer each time and by the time I was back in the Medway and in calm waters, both the alarm light and sound were on continuously.
I was unable to turn the sound off with the EVC control panel. On docking, when I tried to take control of the engine at the second helm position, a red light on the secondary EVC control panel was flashing and the control would not transfer to this position.
Safely alongside, I turned the engine off but the alarm continued sounding. Only when I then switched the battery power off, did it stop. Turning it back on again, the alarm immediately starts. Hopefully, I've managed to include a picture of this alarm signal.

So advice please on what this alarm for and hence the possible cause? It was clearly initially set off by the rolling, pitching of the boat.
The engine is 2010 on a single shaft and has only done 250 hours.

Thanks
Paul

A long shot - but if it was only fixed when you switched off the batteries, could it be a bilge pump warning
Thanks. No, but on the right track . I've now looked at the wiring to the alarm and very sensibly it is actually marked with what it is for. It is water in the primary fuel filter and looking at the filter, I can see the water.
