A friend of mine has a new Sealine SC29 with Volvo D3 engines. There are no oil pressure gauges on the dash and he has been told that you can't get oil pressure gauges for these engines. Can anyone confirm if this is true?
confirmed two D3-160 on my S29 have no oil pressure guages.
i am informed if the pressure goes wrong you get an alarm and indication on the dials.
and also no raw water strainers....unless volvo have made a modification.
there are filters in the legs
Please feel free to forward my details to your friend, should he need any help/info. i had some serious problems with my S29 (not the SC) but to be fair it was hull no 008 so will have had lots of teething problems.
On a similar line (D3 160s again) I ttarted one of the engines yesterday and an alarm went off stating 'electrical fault service soon'. It is not due for a service and I went out anyway. Through the course of the day alarm sounded each time I started the engine, but finally stopped by the end of the day and all is now fine. My question is can I run a reset to clear such a fault if it occured again. I'm thinking along the lines of something like - ignition on remove engine fuse ?
Long time. All ok other than this alarm?
My canopy seems to have been finally sorted!
I had the alarm indicate an electrical fault when I had the overheating problem.
Also had a recent alarm when the leg trim sensor failed.
But the dial indicated where the problem was.
Personally I would not recommend pulling any fuses....you never know if it might be hiding something else.
Doug, it has been a long time. The engine was cold, but I have some vague recollection that when I called Seastart out last year they carried out some sort of reset?
I've already had 2 leg trim sensors!
The canopy is still O.K and doesn't leak, other than an ongong saga with the holding tank that went on for months all is O.K. Just need to convince the wife to go to Guernsey next week!
I have D3 190S and i have raw water strainers.I also have no oil pressure guages.I have just had my extended warranty service and since this i am down by 200 revs on max and am using more fuel per rpm.I am also getting Engine Electrcal Fault Alarms.Volvo are looking into these problems. It seems that the new improved air filters do not seem to suit my engines.
Welcome to the mad house. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
strange that you mention being down on revs since service..... the same for me now i recall.
and interesting you have strainers now.
i had mega overheat problems related to heat exchanger being clogged up.
the electrical fault is a known problem. There is a problem with D3`s with the foam air filter. If you remove it you will find one corner more restricted than others. remove the filter when you go out. you wont get the problem come back. speak to your local dealer there is a rework available by fitting an earlier style filter unit
slight twist on this thread, but these new generation engines use a lot more electronics, to me this only makes me want the reliability of twins even more, contracdicting the views of some mbm advice.
And I am a gadget man in electronics manufacturing !
