i foolishly inserted my oil extract line (coil of steel with plastic jacket) into my dip stick pipe instead of the dedicated pipe.
It is now stuck.
Is it likely to be stuck in the engine mechanism and how big a deal am I facing?
I can push it in further but it is completed jammed at one point when I try to remove it.
any advise appreciated.

Clearly you will not be able to monitor your oil level using your dip stick but it will not stop you using your engine if you leave your oil extractor as it is - so long as you replace any oil that's been removed. It would probably be better to consult your local Volvo agent for the solution to removing the bit that's likely to jam.

Good luck.

If it was the case with MY VP D1 30 engine I would just pull the line harder until it's out.
Can't think of anything all the way down to the sump that can hold the extractor line there or to get harmed by using force to pull it out.
IMHO the worst that can happen is that the coil will give up and come out as a strait steel wire
If it went in it should come out!

It might be snagging on a sharp corner at the end of the tube. Could be worth inserting piano wire inside the tube to increase the bend radius to fiddle it back out.
