Hi,

I have a volvo D2 55 that has no gauges, as it is the push button control panel which alarms if there is a problem. The heat exchanger seems to keep hot / warm for upto 12 hours after use. is this normal? Is there any way of fitting a display to show the engine basics, without spending the huge amount of money that volvo would require?

The engine looms will normally have all the wires required as Volvo will only use one spec and the engine may even have the senders to suit next check if there is a panel with gauges you require as an option if so cost it and then decide if it’s viable and sell the original panel or just price the gauges sometimes Volvo will surprise you but not always
Maybe not such a good idea as the panel as a spare is over 900 Euro according to the D2-55 parts list

Hi, be aware that the analogue signals form temp and oil pressure switch on the engine are routed through the Marine Diesel Interface Unit, MDI which converts these to a digital signal in the wiring harnesses. The is no way you can "splice in" additional gauges with this harness.
The only way forward is either VP supply gauges etc, check with a dealer for price, you may be surprised, although probably not:).
You can "hard wire" additional analogue senders and gauges if wanted as suggested above.
p.s. Google MDI Unit failures for interesting reading.
springer.

Ffs went to edit a couple of typos and deleted the entire post
Here goes again
You can add extra analog guages relatively easily from asap supplies faria guages can be bought relatively cheaply with the senders for oil water temp and volts oil pressure sender would tee into existing port temp would go into a port in the head you would need a signal wire from each back to the dash ,there may be spares in the harness. If not then easily run in, you then need to wire the guages to an ignition live and an earth plus illumination if required. Sounds complicated but prety simple budget around £150 - 200 if doing the work yourself
