I don't think you'll find a free download anywhere. You can download the workshop manual from the BoatDiesel website - see here and enter D2-40 in the Find box. You need to join BoatDiesel in order to get download tokens; basic $25 membership gives you 50 download tokens.

The sea water pump has seals which can leak. Stripping and replacing seals is a simple enough job - just be sure to note which way around the seals are fitted on the shaft. There are lots of diagrams around, I find it useful to use VP dealer online shop diagrams as they indicate parts prices - see here for example.

Thanks for that info pvb before I start to strip it down , have you taken one off before ? if so is there any think I need to think about before removing it , ie do I have to mark the shaft the way it comes out or is there any bits that need I need to watch out for as I remove it .
The diagram looks straight forwards .
The engine only 3 years old thought we have done 1000 engine hours , I have found salt crystals around the pump so I am guessing one of the seal is going to need to be replace .

VP - as disgrace!

I had the same problem on my D2-40 with about 400 hours!
The advice i got from VP was really poor. I opted to buy a new one not having stripped one down before. It's easy to remove but you will need a new paper gasket for the rear fixing plate and an O ring gasket on the front. There's a spriral drive gear on the shaft, which is on a taper- it's impossible for a diyer to remove. I found an enginner who tried with a puller and failed, and had to use oxy heat to release it.
I've the Workshop Manual which makes no mention of the spiral drive, nor did the 'experts' i spoke to at VP mention it. They did sell me an expensive pump, but didn't include the gaskets. When i complained it went to VP UK sales director, but all i got was weazel words. Frankly VP customer service is a disgrace!

Good luck,

John
