Boat is now ashore for the Winter for some upgrades and maintenance. This WE I planned amongst other things, to change the leg oil. But... I have forgotten to get a replacement plug seal/gasket/washer and cannot remember what is on there. Can one of you kind chaps let me its approx. size and composition please. I may well have one in stock (so to speak) if I knew what it was.

Thanks :)

O ring VP part no. 3855081, 47p from Volspec. 21mm od, about 1.5mm thick. There is a half ring recess up the hole.

Are you sure about the OD? I don't have one to hand but I'm sure mine is a lot smaller than that, I was surprised. Took ages to drain. (SD130 on D1-30 engine). I will check my spare over weekend.

My spare appears to be 7/16 x 1/4, that's with a ruler, not got a vernier here.

Edit - Imperial measurements seemed to match easier than metric - it appeared to be 11 and a half x 6 and a bit!
Looking at standards now, I can find
6.02 ID, 2.62 section, 11.26 OD ISO3601/BS1806 or
6.00, 2.65, 11.3, also ISO3601 or
6.60, 2.4, 11.4, BS4518
The last one possibly seems the nearest but the ID seems a bit big.

Thanks chaps. Its all done now - re-used the old one which was in good nick and still nice and round. Despite trying in the local swindlery, I could not get a replacement locally. Its about 11mm OD I'd say, but its quite thick for the OD size and none of the generics I had were thick enough. This is the first time I have drained out the bottom (so to speak!) and the oil was stone cold but drained out quickly (mine has had engine oil in it from new) all 2.9L of it came out. Obviously you need both top plugs out as well to let the air in. When I refilled, I got about 2.7L to right mark, so will check the level after running the gearbox for 20 seconds or so. Had to do this last time to get the last bit in.

ha you guys lucky , i cant undo drain screw , more scared to used excessive force , any tips , my drive is 120s , but guess similar in plug .

cheers

First thing I would try is a bit of heat from a heat gun. My plug is purely a blade screw with a relatively shallow slot, so not much purchase. Use a screw-driver that fits perfectly in the slot (ensuring the slot is clean of course) then brace the driver with a lot of upward force and get a spanner on the driver shank (there should be a hex on that size of driver) and after heating it a bit, see if it will budge. My other thought is an impact driver - but I am not sure I would use one there. If all else fails, then change the oil from the top tube and leave the plug in!!

Just a word of caution - not recommended to reuse gasket as the compression may have pressed out. Had own experience of doing same and wondered why milky oil was frothing out of saildrive. Volvo explained the the cause as noted and say always replace with new gasket.
