Volvo D1-30 woes

Having moved to the IOW and having left the boat in chichester for 5 months , we got a new mooring at the Folly and I went to move her over on friday.all went well , engine started OK left it on tickover while I fiddled about, and as usual stuck her it gear and gave her some revs before letting go and hardly anything happened except black smoke, no power and not reving passed 1500 rpm in or out of gear.. Tried all sorts . All I can think of is blocked exhaust elbow, as it was fine when I left it, I know they can rust from the inside, I think the original one. 17 years old. So could do with changing anyway I guess. Any other thoughts?

Black smoke is incomplete combustion, could this be the fuel supply side or possibly air intake, no turbo on this engine IIRC.

What is wrapped around the prop? Ah, you say out of gear is the same, sorry.

All fixed now. Exhaust elbow was the trouble you couldn't get a pencil down the hole, wonder it ran last year. Incidentally stanless one from parts for engines looks a good buy. Not sure how it's cast stanless but it's on and working

He was probably under pressure to move his boat to the new mooring, so likely worthwhile buying from a known reliable source for him.
