I am looking to find an alternative to the above Volvo cutlass bearing which fits a 30mm shaft as I think its overpriced and of questionable quality. Have asked the Volvo dealer what the shell diameter is so I can order a replacement but he says he does not have the information and to remove the bearing to measure it ! Have checked the Volvo web pages but no information. Need to know if its 45mm or 1 3/4 inch. Any info gratefully received.

I bought one form my bene 381, its 30 mm id, 40 mm od and 100 mm long. I forget where I got it from! Some one on here pointed me to them, in Poole I think?

Just to confirm my earlier posts, part 812916 is listed as being 44mm diameter in the VP online webshop.

Many thanks for the info. Finding an alternative may not be as easy as I thought !

Try Lake Stern Gear, the link is in my other post, at the bottom of the page it says they make other sizes, he is very knowledgeable and his prices are good.

If you want quality/performance, long life and resistance to marine growth issues, you can always look at a composite bearing rather than a rubber one. These are available in any size IDxOD (within certain limits) running a 0.07 clearance on the shaft (0.14 MRD) when new. Supplied finished or for local finishing of OD to suit bearing carrier. Fitting advised is clearance bedded on epoxy. These are not the cheapest option, but you get what you pay for.
