I have taken delivery of a project, Triana 25 Tropica with 2 x AQ231a with duoprop D290 legs. I am getting prepared to start the engines for the first time out of the water to check they fire up ok - my question is will muffs on the legs be sufficient to keep them cool if they start! Not going to run them for long.

Also, there is no windscreen - can anyone suggest where I should try to get one made.

Thanks for any help

Hi
One thing I do on my 290 legs is to fit a piece of tapered dowel in the hole at the front of the leg, just below the intake grills that you fit the muffs over. This stops a flow of water from leaving the leg before it gets a chance to travel up to the engine. Have a look you will see what I mean. You may also have to hold the muffs in postion until the engine starts pumping the water. The temps should be OK as long as you have a good supply of water, the outlet from the exhaust will let you know.

Can't help with the windscreen though - sorry

Hi Steve, glad you enjoyed the weekend and are inspired to get going on the boat.

Follow Peanuts' advice about the little hole at the bottom of the leg and the muffs and you should be fine.

I am always a bit wary of running on a hose in case too much water pressure/flow finds it's way back through the exhaust elbow and down into the cylinders - just make sure you only turn the hose on as you are about to start the engine and back off as soon as you stop it [preferably slightly before].

Another perhaps safer method is to put a big plastic drum up around the outdrive leg and fill it with water from the hose to replicate it being in the sea, that way the raw water pump will only lift what it needs.

Good luck, those two V8s will sound good together....

Hi, thanks for the advice, dont want to be doing head gaskets. After last weekend i just want it in the water but am a long way off at present. Will eventually work out how to post pics, so they should follow someday!
