Hi,
Wonder if anyone can help.... Ive noticed an ocassional knock sound from the back of my engine, seems to be coming from the bell housing area or back of the engine

The engine is scarcely run in, V8 petrol AQ211 and the outdrive, DP type, was rebuilt last year. The uni joint looked ok and was greased up a few weeks ago. This has got me perplexed, its the odd thump in idle or higher revs, not there all the time, sometimes every 20 secs or so, sometimes every few secs, sometimes nothing for 15 mins! Very odd, does anyone have any ideas what it could be?

Im based on the River Hamble nr Swanick. she may have to come outand have the outdrive taken off. Would the bearings make this noise or flywheel plate? Ive read they make more of a rattle or grinding noise, not an ocassional thump.

Many thanks!
Adrian

My first boat had an AQ211. When it developed a knocking sound, which was mainly evident when under high load or when opening the throttle it transpired to be the crankshaft that was making the knocking. Can't remember exactly what was fixed to rectify the problem as it was done under warranty, as it too had just been rebuilt! The sound wasn't from the bellhousing though, and in any case I hope your problem is something else entirely.....
